Cookie Policy
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device. Related technologies include localStorage, which lets a page save data in your browser without sending it anywhere. Both are covered here.
Under EU and UK rules, storage that is strictly necessary to deliver a service you asked for does not require consent. Everything below is strictly necessary. We currently use nothing that falls outside that category.
The cookie we set
| Name | Category | Provider | Purpose | Expiry |
|---|---|---|---|---|
pp_session | Strictly necessary | This site (first-party) | Keeps you signed in to your member account. Contains your email address and an expiry time, cryptographically signed so it cannot be altered. Set HttpOnly, Secure, SameSite=Lax | 30 days, or immediately on sign-out |
That is the only cookie this site sets. We do not set _ga, _fbp, or any equivalent, because we do not run analytics or advertising.
Data your browser stores locally
The following are saved in your browser's localStorage. None of it is ever transmitted to us or to anyone else. It exists so your work and preferences survive a page refresh.
| Name | Category | Purpose | Expiry |
|---|---|---|---|
mon_consent_v1 | Strictly necessary | Remembers your cookie preference choice so we don't ask again | Until cleared |
mon_a11y_v1 | Strictly necessary | Remembers your accessibility settings — font size, contrast, reduced motion, dyslexia-friendly font | Until cleared |
| Practice tool data | Strictly necessary | Your own work in the Sniff Notepad, Scent Journal, Smell Word Cloud, and Origins Map — entries, notes, and progress | Until cleared |
Please note: because your tool data lives only in your browser, clearing your browsing data, switching browsers, or using a different device will make it disappear, and we have no copy to restore. Export anything you want to keep.
Third-party content loaded by your browser
Some pages request web fonts from Google Fonts, and a few interactive tools load code libraries from the unpkg CDN. These set no cookies, but your browser has to reveal its IP address to fetch the files. We receive nothing from this and make no use of it.
Material pages also link to suppliers through ShopMy affiliate links. Nothing is set unless you actually click one; from that point ShopMy and the merchant apply their own cookies under their own policies.
Your choices
Because we set nothing beyond the strictly necessary, there is no analytics or advertising consent to give or withdraw. The preferences panel remains available:
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking pp_session will prevent you from signing in.
If we ever introduce analytics, we will update this page, and the scripts will not load unless you actively opt in.
Do Not Track & Global Privacy Control
We honour the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. In practice it changes nothing here, since we run no analytics and never sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising.
